چکیده
The following content refers to the thermal aspects of Gas Foil Bearing (GFB). GFBs are subgroup journal bearings, for which lubrication is provided by air, instead ‘traditional’ lubricants like oil, graces etc. Bearings offer specific features unachievable traditional bearings. GFB can operate with rotating speed up several dozens krpm in extreme temperature hundreds Celsius degrees. However due their construction, prone issues complicate design process. Until now, many tools, mainly based on numerical models were developed. Their effectiveness evaluated experimental data. Due high complexity GFB’s structure, measurement a challenging task and so far, no reliable simple technique was proposed. There still need developing techniques, allowing precise measurement. This paper presents novel approach compliant structure. unique concept foil integrated sensors presented described detail.

Foil Bearing Stiffness Estimation with Pseudospectral Scheme
Compliant foil gas lubricated bearings are used for the support of light loads in the order of few kilograms at high speeds, in the order of 50,000 RPM. The stiffness of the foil bearings depends both on the stiffness of the compliant foil and on the lubricating gas film. The stiffness of the bearings plays a crucial role in the stable operation of the supported rotor over a range of speeds. Th...
متن کاملTechnical Development Path for Foil Gas Bearings
Foil gas bearings are in widespread commercial use in air cycle machines, turbocompressors and microturbine generators and are emerging in more challenging applications such as turbochargers, auxiliary power units and propulsion gas turbines. Though not well known, foil bearing technology is well over fifty years old. Recent technological developments indicate that their full potential has yet ...

This Note proposes a novel radial-thrust combo metal mesh foil bearing (MMFB). Although MMFBs have advantages such as higher stiffness and damping over conventional air foil bearings, studies related to MMFBs have been limited to radial MMFBs. The novel combo MMFB is composed of a radial top foil, thrust top foils, and a ring-shaped metal mesh damper--fabricated by compressing a copper wire mes...
متن کاملComputational Analysis of Gas Foil Bearings Integrating 1D and 2D Finite Element Models for Top Foil
Gas foil bearings (GFBs) are finding widespread usage in oil-free turbo expanders, APUs and micro gas turbines for distributed power due to their low drag friction and ability to tolerate high level vibrations, including transient rubs and severe misalignment, static and dynamic. The static load capacity and dynamic forced performance of GFBs depends largely on the material properties of the su...
متن کاملPreliminary results on multi-body dynamic simulation of a new test rig for wheel-rail contact
The ability to perform rolling contact fatigue (RCF) experiments in wheel–rail material is provided by a new small–scale test rig, manifesting the actual dynamic behaviour of the railway system. In this paper, a multi-body dynamics (MBD) model is proposed, simulating the vibration behaviour of the prescribed rig. The new testing facility is modelled using a three-dimensional model of the vehicl...
